Welcome to St. Columba Catholic Church!
We are one of the oldest parishes in the Diocese of Peoria and in the state of Illinois, dating back to 1838. Although very little surrounded our current church when it was erected in the 1880's, we now find ourselves in the center of Ottawa's bustling downtown. Our parish community is alive and active, and is always trying to find new ways to live and share our faith.
What we believe...
As Roman Catholics, we believe and try to live out what Christians have believed and tried to live out for the last 2,000 years. We don’t try to be unique, but we do try to be faithful. We worship Jesus Christ and we believe He is substantially present in the Eucharist beneath the appearance of bread and wine. We love our Catholic faith, and we try to let the Catholic tradition, both universal and local, mold our entire lives.
We believe in God,
the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended into hell;
on the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;
from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
If you have questions or would like to learn more about the faith we profess, or if you are already Catholic and are looking for a parish to join, give us a call at the parish rectory. We are here to serve you!
